Private Tuscany Villa Experience in Chianti: Truffle Hunting, Wine & Family Heritage

Some places are not discovered. They are inherited through story.

There are homes in Tuscany that you visit.

And then there are places that feel as though they have been waiting for you, quietly, patiently, for centuries.

This is one of those places.

Tucked into the rolling hills of Chianti, not far from Florence, stands a 17th-century estate that has lived many lives. Today, it is still what it has always been: a family home.

But now, it is also something more subtle.

A place where travelers are welcomed not as guests passing through, but as people stepping, briefly, into a way of life that has never been performed for anyone.

At the center of it is Niccolò, and this is his story...

A Private Tuscany Villa Experience That Was Never Meant to Become a Destination

“Our family property is much more than a place to stay,” Niccolò explains.“It is a piece of our history and identity.”

The estate dates back to the 1600s, passed through generations and deeply rooted in the traditions of the Chianti region.

For Niccolò and his brother Mattia, it was never initially a business idea.

It was home. A place shaped by childhood, family meals, long summers, and the quiet rhythm of Tuscan life. It wasn’t until years later—after life pulled them into different directions—that they understood what the place could become.

Not a hotel.

Not a resort.

But a living continuation of their family story.

From Professional Basketball to a Different Kind of Homecoming

Before returning to Tuscany, Niccolò and Mattia lived a very different life.

Both pursued professional basketball in Italy until their early twenties, traveling across the country, living in different cities, and experiencing life far beyond their hometown hills.

“It gave us everything,” Niccolò says.“But at some point, we felt something pulling us back.”

Not toward success elsewhere.

But toward meaning at home.

Tuscany was not just a place they came from.

It was the place that defined how they understood belonging.

So they returned.

Not to recreate the past—but to reinterpret it.

Hospitality Was Already in the Family

Long before they opened their doors, hospitality was already part of their daily life.

Niccolò’s parents spent over 15 years working in Tuscany’s restaurant world, running a well-known local bar and restaurant.

It was there they learned something essential:

Hospitality is not service. It is presence.

It is attention to people. To detail. To moments that matter without needing to be announced.

That philosophy became the foundation for everything that followed.

A Private Villa Designed for Only a Few

Today, the estate has been transformed into a small, exclusive agriturismo.

There are only two apartments, which can be combined into a private villa accommodating up to eight guests.

Surrounding it is silence, open landscape, and a panoramic swimming pool overlooking vineyards, olive groves, and a medieval castle.

But what defines the space is not what it offers.

It is what it removes.

No crowds.No schedules.No noise that doesn’t belong.

Only space to breathe.

Where Tradition Is Not Preserved—It Is Lived

At the heart of Niccolò’s story is something far older than the villa itself.

A family tradition rooted in the land.

His grandfather was one of the first in Tuscany to train dogs for truffle hunting.

Niccolò grew up walking these same forests, learning patience, observation, and respect for nature, not as concepts, but as daily practice.

Today, that tradition continues.

Guests are invited to join private truffle hunting experiences, guided personally by the family, followed by meals prepared using recipes passed down from their grandmother.

Nothing is staged.

Nothing is recreated for effect.

It simply continues.

A Different Kind of Luxury: Time, Presence, and Care

As the estate evolved, Niccolò pursued a technical director license for a travel agency, allowing the family to design fully curated experiences beyond the property itself.

They expanded their ability to personally guide guests across Italy, creating journeys that feel continuous rather than fragmented.

“We don’t see transportation as movement,” he says.“We see it as part of the experience.”

Every transfer, every stop, every moment between destinations becomes intentional.

Not wasted time.

But lived time.

Tuscany as It Is, Not as It Is Marketed

What defines their approach is what they choose not to do.

There are no scripted itineraries.

No fixed perfect days.

No standard version of Tuscany.

Instead, every experience is shaped around the gues, their interests, their pace, and the natural rhythm of the season.

Spring brings movement and light. Summer stretches into long golden evenings.Autumn carries depth and harvest.Winter offers quiet and reflection.

The estate remains open year-round, because Tuscany does not close, it changes.

A Living Connection to Art, Culture, and Craft

The land itself carries layers of history stretching back to the Etruscans, long before Rome.

Nearby Florence, the birthplace of the Renaissance, continues to shape the artistic identity of the region.

But for Niccolò, culture is not something to observe from a distance.

It is something to participate in.

Guests are introduced to:

  • Local artisans preserving centuries-old techniques

  • Painting classes overlooking the hills

  • Cheese-making and cooking experiences rooted in family tradition

  • Jewelry and craft workshops led by nearby families

Each experience exists through collaboration with local households, keeping traditions alive through participation rather than preservation behind glass.

A Philosophy of Hosting That Extends Beyond Stay

At its core, this is not a hospitality business in the traditional sense.

It is a continuation of a family philosophy:

To welcome people fully. To share what is real.To remove distance between guest and place.

“We want people to feel like they have a home here,” Niccolò says.“Even if they’ve never been before.”

Guests are supported throughout their stay, with constant availability and personal care that extends beyond arrival and departure. Many relationships continue long after travel ends.

Not as transactions.

But as connections.

A Place for Slower, Shared, and Multi-Generational Travel

The estate naturally lends itself to shared travel experiences between generations. Families often arrive together, parents, children, grandparents, each experiencing Tuscany differently, but within the same space. Meals become shared anchors.Days unfold without pressure.Time becomes something held collectively.

It is not designed as a concept.

It emerges naturally from the way the place is lived.

A Network of Families, Not a Single Property

For larger gatherings, the family collaborates with nearby estates run by other local families.

This allows for meaningful experiences for groups of up to 100 guests while maintaining the same philosophy of intimacy, authenticity, and care.

Every collaboration is rooted in trust, history, and shared values.

Nothing is outsourced.

Everything is connected.

Niccolò’s Vision: A Life That Continues to Evolve, Not Expand

For Niccolò, this work is not defined by scale.

It is defined by depth.

“I don’t see this as a business,” he says.“It is something I love doing with my family.”

The vision is simple:

  • Preserve authenticity

  • Protect intimacy

  • Continue creating meaningful experiences

  • Grow only in ways that do not change the essence of the place

This is not about becoming larger.

It is about remaining true.

A Thoughtful Way to Experience Tuscany, Guided by Tranquil Escapes

Experiences like this don’t happen by accident.

They are shaped through relationships, trust, and a shared understanding of what travel can become when approached with intention.

This is where Tranquil Escapes comes in.

Rather than offering pre-designed itineraries, each journey is thoughtfully shaped—guided by the people, the place, and the natural rhythm that unfolds once you arrive.

Working closely with Niccolò and his family, Tranquil Escapes offers access to experiences that are not widely available, because they are not created for the general market. They exist within real homes, living traditions, and relationships built over time.

What defines this approach is not only the level of care, but the intention behind it.

Travel is designed to feel:

  • Grounded in place, supporting local families and preserving tradition

  • Unhurried and flexible, allowing space for spontaneity and presence

  • Deeply personal, shaped around your interests rather than a fixed plan

For those traveling together—whether as couples, families, or across generations—this creates something even more meaningful.

Through Tranquil Escapes, these stays are not just arranged—they are carefully considered, allowing each journey to feel connected, intentional, and lasting.

If this resonates, you’re invited to explore the experience more fully, and begin shaping a stay that reflects how you want to spend your time in Tuscany.

There’s no fixed way to do it.

Only a starting point.
